Maharashtra Cabinet Relief for Displaced Families as Stamp Duty Reduced for “Home Sweet Home” Scheme

Nagpur, Maharashtra – In a significant move providing financial relief, the Maharashtra cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a reduced stamp duty of just ₹1,000 for the registration of lease deeds for 28 houses allocated to families displaced by the Nagpur Smart City project. This decision, made on Tuesday, addresses the financial burden faced by low-income beneficiaries under the ‘Home Sweet Home’ rehabilitation scheme in Mouza Punapur.
Previously, the stamp duty for registering these homes was estimated to be between ₹40,000 and ₹45,000, a substantial amount for the economically weaker section families who were displaced due to Smart City infrastructure development in Nagpur. The beneficiaries had been advocating for a reduction, drawing a parallel with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which also levies a nominal stamp duty of ₹1,000.

Acknowledging their plea, the state government has now extended this benefit to the 28 newly constructed houses in Mouza Punapur, specifically allocated for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as part of their rehabilitation. This decision is anticipated to significantly ease the financial strain on the affected families and expedite the process of legally securing ownership of their new residences.
